Lola Simpson sat in a wheelchair, admiring the small garden through the window of her room at Big Hearts Nursing Home. Yet another year had passed, but Lola’s life saw no significant changes. Her daughter, Natalie, and son-in-law, Roger, didn’t return her calls and didn’t bother to check on her again that year. Exactly six years ago, when Lola was 80, her health began failing her.

She needed assistance with the most basic tasks and could barely get things done on her own. Lola had always been a lively and cheery woman, but who could beat the effects of aging? When Natalie realized she’d have to care for her ailing mother, she just kicked her out to live in a nursing home, then settled in her mother’s house with her husband.

That time, Natalie very enthusiastically promised Lola that she would visit her often, but year after year, Lola just kept waiting and neither Roger nor Natalie showed up. One day, Lola was very upset. She had a small family album that she’d brought with her when she was admitted to the nursing home, and as she was looking through the pictures of her and Natalie in them, her tears wouldn’t stop falling.

A young nurse named Mary saw Lola crying and her heart went out to the poor woman. “Mrs. Simpson,” she said, approaching her. “Can I help you? Are you okay?” Lola shook her head, wiping her tears. “What do I tell you, darling? This year, my daughter didn’t visit me again. I’ve been waiting for her visit for six years now. Every year, my heart wonders if I’m wasting my time waiting for her. Will she even show up?”

Mary sighed, unsure of how to comfort the older woman. She had heard Lola’s story from the other nurses when she started working at the nursing home. She knew Lola’s daughter and son-in-law had evicted her from her home and had never visited her.

She had to do something to cheer up Lola’s mood. So Mary forced a smile and said, “You see, Mrs. Simpson, they say that patience always bears fruit. I am sure your life will change one day, and you’ll have so much love around you. Plus, crying doesn’t suit a pretty lady like you. Come on, I want to see a smile on that gorgeous face!”

Lola blushed. “Oh, you really have a way with words, darling. I’m sorry for bothering you with all of my troubles. But you know what? I feel a little better. Thank you for listening to me….” “Don’t worry, Mrs. Simpson. I’m around if you ever need someone to listen to your worries. In exchange, I might just ask you for some beauty tips on how you have such beautiful skin!” she joked and Lola chuckled.

“I don’t think an old soul like me can take any more of that flattery. I was wondering if….” Lola began talking to Mary about the things on her mind, having forgotten all her troubles. That night at home, Mary couldn’t take Lola out of her head. She was feeling terrible for the woman and had an idea in the back of her mind to help her. But for it to work, she needed to talk to her husband first.

“Josh,” she began while they were having dinner. “I know we have a lot on our plates with a small home and three children to look after, but there’s a woman at the nursing home where I work, and she’s really lonely. I was wondering if we could take her in.” Josh lowered his fork and pursed his lips. “We can’t, darling,” he flatly refused. “We’re already straining to make ends meet. That would put us under too much stress.”

“But, honey, her family kicked her out. She has no one to care for her. Of course, the nurses are there, but she longs for a family. I’m not putting any pressure on you, but—” “What did you say? She was kicked out?” Mary nodded. “And her son-in-law and daughter never visited her after. She hopes they will come to see her someday. She’s been waiting for 6 years…I doubt they’ll come.”

At that point, Josh regretted refusing Mary. He remembered how his mother was all alone in her final days since he was too busy working to support his family and rarely visited her. Josh couldn’t bear the thought of someone else spending their final days in such grief and misery, so he agreed to Mary’s request. “Alright,” he sighed. “I guess we’ll somehow manage….”

After the documentation was done and Lola came to Mary’s home, Lola felt like her life had gotten another chance. She loved being around Mary’s kids, who called her grandma, and Josh and Mary loved and respected her so much. Lola lived in Josh and Mary’s house for several months, and she forgot about her troubles. She was finally happy and Mary was delighted to see her that way.

One morning, Lola received a letter and immediately recognized the sender’s address. “You look really happy, Mrs. Simpson. What is the letter about?” Mary asked her as she saw her running her hand smoothly on the letter’s envelope and smiling.

“Oh, it’s from someone special, darling. Just a minute….” Lola opened the letter to read it and her tears did not stop. It was a letter notifying her that she had inherited $2.3 million from none other than her older stepbrother, Morgan, who had obtained Mary’s address through Lola’s lawyer.

The thing was, Morgan had promised their mother that he would always look after his younger sister, Lola. Sadly, he was bedridden for a long time, and now that the doctor had told him he only had a few months to live, he decided to leave his money to Lola because he didn’t have his own family. Word reached Natalie and Roger that Lola had become a millionaire after Lola’s lawyer visited Lola’s home for some formalities, only to learn she was in a nursing facility.

The couple decided to take Lola back in, but when they went to the nursing home to get her, they learned Lola had left the facility several months ago. “But where did she go?” Natalie asked the receptionist, confused. The receptionist slid a slip toward her and said, “She’s somewhere she deserves to be. I’m giving you this address so that you learn that your mother doesn’t need you to be happy!”

When Natalie and Roger arrived at Mary’s house, they pretended to be the lovely relatives they weren’t. But Lola was having none of it and slammed the door in their face. “I’m sorry, but I don’t know you,” she told them. “My daughter and son-in-law don’t let strangers in, so please leave….” In the end, Natalie and Roger got what they deserved, and so did Lola.

Through Mary, she received a priceless treasure: a loving family. In gratitude, Lola decided to leave her riches to Mary’s family after her death. Meanwhile, she sued Natalie and Roger, claiming her right to her house, and though the lawsuit took time, she won. As of now, Lola doesn’t know where Natalie and Roger are and she doesn’t care either. When Morgan left for his heavenly abode, Mary and Josh took care of his funeral arrangements. Lola’s health is doing much better and she is happy with the family she got in Mary, Josh, and their children.

Everyone Has Their Own Story https://lorevista.com/everyone-has-their-own-story/ Mon, 22 Jan 2024 09:36:02 +0000 https://alternatech.net/?p=65955 Everyone Has Their Own Story

An elderly woman died alone in a nursing home.

When the staff cleared out her room, they found a letter in her drawer.

It was addressed to all the nurses and administrators at the nursing home.

Each of them, reading it, burst into tears.

“Dear nursing assistants,

What do you see when you are looking at me?

Probably only a frail old woman, not very smart, and with strange habits…

A person with an absent gaze and dull eyes.

Someone who does not obey and spits out her food, leaving you frustrated.

Is this all you see? In that case, you should look more closely, because I’m not like that.

I’m a little girl with a loving family.

I am a young bride, whose heart beats faster because I’m going to make a vow that I will keep for all of my life.

I’m a mother. I have two beautiful children who love me and they need me.

I am a woman becoming increasingly wise and mature.

My children are growing up fast, but I know in my heart that they will never really leave me.

I’m a middle aged woman. Ny children have left the house and my husband and I are happy again on our own.

I’m a grandmother. For the first time after decades, I hold children on my lap again. I could not be happier.

I’m a widow. A dark cloud hovers over me and I grieve my husband’s death.

When I think about the future, I feel lost. I do not have anyone to take care of me.

My children have children of their own, and I don’t want to disturb them.

I’m an old woman. Nature shows no mercy. I feel trapped inside my body. Strength and beauty have vanished.

Despite this, deep inside me there is still that child, who lives among the wrinkles.

In my mind, I think of all the good times that I have lived and also the bad ones.

I accept the fact that nothing last forever. Therefore, open your eyes and look more closely.

You are not looking at a frail old woman, you are looking at Me!

Everyone has a past full of sadness and joy.

The elderly deserve respect and patience as much as anyone else.

Because remember, one day, you’ll be just like them!”

Little Boy with a Slingshot https://lorevista.com/little-boy-with-a-slingshot/ Tue, 09 Jan 2024 09:49:10 +0000 https://alternatech.net/?p=65089 Once upon a time Sammy and his sister Marie visited their grandparents at their farm. Sammy picked up a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for the lunch. As he was walking back he saw Grandma’s pet duck.

Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly which hit the duck square in the head and k .illed it. He was shocked and grieved. In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the pile of woods. Marie had seen it all from the window but she said nothing. After the lunch, the next day Grandma said, “Marie, let’s wash the dishes.”. Marie said, “But Grandma, Sammy told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.”

Then she whispered to Sammy, “Remember the duck?”. Sammy got nervous knowing his sister knew about the duck and if he doesn’t obey, she may tell his grandparents about it. So without saying anything, he did the dishes.

Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing but Grandma said, “I’m sorry but I need Marie to help make a supper.”. Marie just smiled and said, “Well that’s all right because Sammy told me he wanted to help.”

She whispered again to Sammy, “Remember the duck?”. So Marie went fishing and Sammy stayed to help. After several days of Marie taking advantage of Sammy, he finally couldn’t stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck.

Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, “Sweetheart, I know. I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Marie take advantage of you.”

Moral: Always confess of your mistakes. It will take away a load of guilt from your heart which will boost your conscience and no one will take an advantage of your secret mistakes! Accept your mistake, apologize and seek forgiveness politely.

The Reflection of Your Actions https://lorevista.com/the-reflection-of-your-actions/ Tue, 09 Jan 2024 07:38:23 +0000 https://alternatech.net/?p=65007 A man and his son were going through the forest hills. Suddenly, the boy fell down on the trail and screamed with a pain, “Aah!”. Surprisingly, he heard the same voice from the mountain, “Aah!”. Curiously, the boy shouted, “Who is this?”. But the voice replied the same, “Who is this?”. He got angry, and shouted again, “You are stupid!”. And again the voice replied the same, “You are stupid!”.

Annoyed By this, the boy asked his father, “Father, What is going on? Who is this?”. The Father replied, “Son, Pay attention”. The father shouted, “You are very nice”. And the voice responded the same, “You are very nice!”. The father again shouted, “Thank you”. And the voice again responded the same, “Thank you!”. The son was very surprised but he still could not understand what was happening.

The father explained, “Son, people call it resonance, but this is the truth of the life. The life is a reflection of your actions. What you will give to others, you will receive the same in return.”

Moral: What we give to others, life gives us the same in return. Your life is not an accident or a coincidence, but it is the shadow of your actions.

Mom’s Sacrifice – Touching Story https://lorevista.com/moms-sacrifice-touching-story/ Fri, 05 Jan 2024 10:11:08 +0000 https://alternatech.net/?p=64958 My mom only had one eye. I hated her… she was such an embarrassment.

My mom ran a small shop at a flea market. She collected little weeds and such to sell… anything for the money we needed she was such an embarrassment. There was this one day during elementary school.

I remember that it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me? I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school… “Your mom only has one eye?!” and they taunted me.

I wished that my mom would just disappear from this world so I said to my mom, “Mom, why don’t you have the other eye?! You’re only going to make me a laughingstock. Why don’t you just d .ie?” My mom did not respond. I guess I felt a little bad, but at the same time, it felt good to think that I had said what I’d wanted to say all this time. Maybe it was because my mom hadn’t punished me, but I didn’t think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.

That night… I woke up, and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. My mom was crying there, so quietly, as if she was afraid that she might wake me.

I took a look at her, and then turned away. Because of the thing I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my mother who was crying out of her one eye. So I told myself that I would grow up and become successful, because I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty.

Then I studied really hard. I left my mother and came to city and studied, and got accepted in the university with all the confidence I had.

Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I’m living happily as a successful man. I like it here because it’s a place that doesn’t remind me of my mom.

This happiness was getting bigger and bigger, when someone unexpected came to see me “What?! Who’s this?!” It was my mother… Still with her one eye. It felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me. My little girl ran away, scared of my mom’s eye.

And I asked her, “Who are you? I don’t know you!!” as if I tried to make that real. I screamed at her. “How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter! Get out of here now!!” And to this, my mother quietly answered, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address,” and she disappeared. Thank goodness… she doesn’t recognize me. I was quite relieved. I told myself that I wasn’t going to care, or think about this for the rest of my life.

Then a wave of relief came upon me… One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. I lied to my wife saying that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went down to the old shack, that I used to call a house…Just out of curiosity there, I found my mother fallen on the cold ground. But I did not shed a single tear. She had a piece of paper in her hand…. it was a letter to me.

She wrote:

My son,
I think my life has been long enough now. And… I won’t visit Seoul anymore… but would it be too much to ask if I wanted you to come visit me once in a while? I miss you so much. And I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I decided not to go to the school…. For you… I’m sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you.
You see, when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye… so I gave you mine… I was so proud of my son that was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye. I was never upset at you for anything you did. The couple times that you were angry with me. I thought to myself, ‘it’s because he loves me.’ I miss the times when you were still young around me.
I miss you so much. I love you. You mean the world to me.

My World Shattered. I hated the person who only lived for me . I cried for My Mother, I didn’t know of any way that will make up for my worst deeds…

Moral: Never Ever hate anyone for their disabilities. Never disrespect your parents, don’t ignore and under estimate their sacrifices. They give us life, they raise us better than they had been, they give and keep trying to give better than they ever had. They never wish unwell for their kids even in their wildest dreams. They always try showing right path and being motivator. Parents give up all for kids, forgive all mistakes made by kids. There is no way to repay what they done for kids, all we can do is try giving what they need and it is just time, love and respect.

As he got out of his car he noticed a young girl sitting on the curb sobbing. He asked her what was wrong and she replied, “I wanted to buy a red rose for my mother. But I only have seventy-five cents, and a rose costs two dollars.”

The man smiled and said, “Come on in with me. I’ll buy you a rose.” He bought the little girl her rose and ordered his own mother’s flowers. As they were leaving he offered the girl a ride home. She said, “Yes, please! You can take me to my mother.”. She directed him to a cemetery, where she placed the rose on a freshly dug grave.

The man returned to the flower shop, canceled the wire order, picked up a bouquet and drove the two hundred miles to his mother’s house.

Blind Dad – Touching Story https://lorevista.com/blind-dad-touching-story/ Fri, 05 Jan 2024 03:21:19 +0000 https://alternatech.net/?p=64888 A young boy used to live with his father alone. He loved playing football and his father always encourage him.

His father never missed a game. Even though his son would always on the bench. Yet his father would always be there in stands cheering for him.

When young man entered high school. He was very determined about playing football. Despite being a bench warmer for all four years, he never missed even a single practice or game.

When the young man went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a “walk-on.”

Everyone was sure that he wouldn’t make the cut but he did and coach decided to keep him on roaster because he always puts his heart and soul to every practice. At the same time provided the other members with the spirit and hustle they badly needed.

He was so thrilled with the news that he rushed to nearest phone and shared this excitement with his father and told him that he had sent him season tickets fro all college games.

Young boy was persistent and even in college he never missed a practice but still never got to play in game.

It was end of his senior football season and he was on field for practice before big play off game. Just then he received a telegram. After reading telegram young boy became silent and mumbled to coach,”My father died this morning.. Will it be alright if i miss today’s practice?”

Coach gently consoled him and said, “Take rest of week off and you don’t even have to come back for game on Saturday..” and young man left.

Saturday arrived. Game was not going well and in third quarter team was ten points behind. Young boy silently came to locker room and put on his football gear. As he ran onto the sidelines, the coach and his players were astounded to see their faithful team-mate back so soon.

Young boy went to coach and said, “Coach please let me play today..!! I have to play today..”

Coach pretended not to listen to him as he didn’t want to take risk in play off game but young man persisted and at last coach agreed and said, “Alright..!! You can go in.”

When young boy started playing opposing team couldn’t stop him and he played like a star and his team began to triumph. Before long everyone who knew him couldn’t believe their eyes as he had never play in any game before.

In closing seconds of game, Young boy ran all the way for winning touch down. His team won the game and his team mates hoisted him onto his shoulders.

After all concluding ceremony was done everyone left. Just when coach was leaving he saw that young man was sitting quietly in corner all alone. Coach went to him and said, “Congratulation kid, you did great today.. You were fantastic..”

Coach continued and asked him, “You never played in any game before.. Tell me how did you do it??”

Young boy with tears in his eyes replied, “Well you knew my dad died.. but did you knew that he was blind..!! Still my dad came to all my games but today was first time he could see me play and I wanted to show him i could do it..!!”

A Glass Of Milk – Touching Story https://lorevista.com/a-glass-of-milk-touching-story/ Fri, 05 Jan 2024 01:07:17 +0000 https://alternatech.net/?p=64885 One day a poor boy, who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However when a lovely young woman opened the door, he lost his nerve and instead of asking for a meal. He asked for a drink of water.

The young lady thought that he looked hungry, so she brought him a large glass of milk instead.

He drank it very slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”

“You do not owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us to never accept pay for a kindness done.”

“Then I thank you, from the bottom of my heart,” he said

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically. But his faith in God and man was also strengthened. He had been ready to give up and quit, but was given the courage to go on.

Years later that young woman became critically ill.

The local doctors were baffled, and they finally sent her to the big city where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for consultation.

When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor’s gown, he bent over to look at her, and he recognized her at once. He returned to his office determined to do his best to save her life.

From that day on he gave special attention to the case, and after a long struggle, the battle was won.

On the day that his patient was to be discharged from the hospital, Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked it over, and then wrote something on the edge of the bill and sent it to her room. She was afraid to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for such a long and expensive hospital stay as hers had been. Finally she could endure the suspense no longer, and she opened the bill. Something scribbled in the margin caught her eye, and she read these words: “Paid in full with one glass of milk.” And it was signed by Dr. Howard Kelly.

Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed, “Thank You, God, that your love has spread abroad through human hearts and hands.”

Moral: Each day as we pass through our humble lives, we never know when a kind touch, a word of encouragement and cheer or a humble act of generosity might give a discouraged, hurting human being just the lift that will make the difference in his or her life. Our harsh words can destroy someone and make them lose hope. Let us be like Jesus and show his love to those around us.
